Jarvis interview today more proof Stefanski "has the team".
Landry calling KS's play calling ballsy, and says OBJ hasn't been this settled and content since LSU.
Can't believe we're 3-1 with a real competitive shot this weekend at 4-1 in this weird-ass 2020 with a new HC.
He's in the top 3 for coach of the year at this time, per SI.
He and Berry have taken this organization into uncharted territory: Progressive and high functioning. Players are gonna wanna come here and stay here.
New coach. No training camp. Pretty remarkable....
PFF’s highest-graded offenses this season:
1. Seahawks - 87.0
2. Packers - 86.4
3. Browns - 86.2
4. Rams - 86.1
Interesting about Sendejo
Sendejo has surrendered some big passing plays, though Woods was quick to point out Sendejo should not be blamed for blown coverage that resulted in rookie wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's 43-yard touchdown in the first quarter of the Browns' 49-38 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
“That was not his play,” Woods said on Zoom as the Browns (3-1) prepared for Sunday's home game against the Indianapolis Colts (3-1). “His play was on No. 2 on the out cut. He actually covered up. We busted that coverage extremely bad. The pressure did not work for us. He was not responsible for that first long touchdown whatsoever.”
That is the problem with assigning blame...sometimes the guy that 'looks' like they got burned is actually covering up someone else's gaff.
Sendejo's suckage hasn't been one play. It seems like he's playing at another speed, and not in the good way. He's late over and over.
Watching him, Sione, or Goodson try to cover anybody is rough.
I'd be lying if I said anything other than I'm very happy with everything I have seen from this team. Week one withstanding, as far as I care you can't really put too much stock in week one because it's too easy to overreact. 3-0 since that start, and looking like a competent and sometimes outright dangerous football team that is overcoming injury at key positions. That all reflects pretty swimingly of the new HC to me.
I wrote a long post on how impressive Stefanksi has been but my computer decided to be awful, so I'm glad you started this thread.
Pretty much everything Stefanski has touched has turned to gold. I just didn't expect this/
One of the reasons I was cold on signing him was because I was tired of the young, unproven, upstart coaches. I wanted someone familiar with the process, who had seen it all before, who had a proven history of winning and could show a young team the right way to do things.
What we've seen so far is all the benefits of a proven coach, but at the most awful time for a first-time coach to get the gig. Stefanski is so composed, he's quietly confident and knows how to go about business on a weekly basis. He's immediately instilled discipline on this team, has them playing solid fundamental football as a cohesive unit, is playing ahead-of-the-curve football and clearly has everyone buying in on the vision.
That's just... weird. To be showing so much, so soon, in to a time when he'd absolutely get a pass for it being a bit of a mess. It's just mind blowing. This doesn't look like a first year team. It looks more like second or third year.
We've got ourselves a fucking coach. Finally.
An example of Stefanski's wizardry is Mayfield. I think it was Dawg or Ocon who posted something about Mayfield knowing his role in this offense. Just a field general/facilitator who plays at a high percentage. But that's not Mayfield. He's always been a risk-it-all, high flying gunslinger. He was the same way in college even though he was efficient. To change the psychology of a quarterback so quickly, and have him willingly invested in that adaption, is remarkable. He's basically a system quarterback waiting for the word on when to unleash, just like a fucking police attack dog. To have him buying in like that is special.
Perhaps most importantly, however, is the management of attitude. Watching this week's Building the Browns/interviews has almost been creepy in the way the players don't really give a shit they're on a three game win streak. It's just one game at a time. They win a game, cool, but they're 0-0 and on to the next. You can't fake that.
Stefanski, in my mind, is an easy choice for Coach of the Year if this keeps up. All due respect to some of the great teams in this league, but many are working with what was already built. Stefanski is in the process of building. Everything working against the Browns last year is now working. Disciplined, not beating themselves, not buying their own hype, playing solid football and being consistent.
There really aren't many coaches who can do something like this. We know because we've tried 'em all.
What I'll also add here is Dorsey deserves more credit. Even the shit he got panned for, like losing the Odell trade, is suddenly starting to look brilliant. Odell isn't that much more expensive than Zeitler when you consider Zeitler is struggling and Teller is outplaying every other guard in the league right now. And Jabrill just hasn't lived up to the potential.
Don't get me wrong, I love what Berry has done, his moves were the perfect additions to the house that Dorsey built. We can love them both, and that bubblegum chewing motherfucker really, really, really put us in a strong position.
