Shows the younger players, that if you play at an elite level, AB will pay you at an elite level
He's a great face of the organization. We all knew it before he played his first snap, and it's why we didn't blink when the Rudolph thing happened ... we knew it didn't define him, and all of his other actions did. Charitable, elite player, leader by example.
As much as I loathe contemplating this, he is undoubtedly our most appealing trade chip and we're a team with a GM with an eye for the future...
If we start off hot, it ain't happening. If we sputter out of the gates, I could see something happening.
My crystal ball says OBJ is here this season but then we make a pretty good trade, like a 2nd rounder, thank him for the media splash. WRs don't really move the dial as individuals. If you got it right with the QB and the scheme, you'll find WRs all over the place.
Teeth will gnash but they really shouldn't. I'd say he stays if he and Baker just really lock in... but I think "really locking in" for this offense will be great numbers for OBJ, but not the raw looks/catches he craves.
That said... this Myles news is a massive moment for this franchise. We just haven't drafted well enough to start locking down cornerstones with big second deals, so this should become a holiday for Browns fans.
The "personal" side of it was covered well this morning in a PD article: Fans can actually have time to know and love their players, like Pats and Steelers fans. When you think of "your" team, you can see Berry and Stef and Myles and Baker and Jed and Denzel and Chubb, with more names to be added. You can buy a jersey with confidence. Your team has a human face.
I just looked up at my framed painting of the Bernie team, with 82 and 44 and 84 and 57, 31 and 29, etc. Like that. Gonna be so nice.
I could see that. Or a very high 2nd. And I'll also debate myself a bit by remembering the new "core positions" list often includes WR these days, for a lot of smart folks (including PFF).
I'd have to hear that whole argument. It's easy to list the top QBs of this century and show how they were WR makers... but when we're talking about all the QBs who are good enough to win a SB but not necessarily in that Brady-Brees-Manning-Rodgers conversation...
Maybe that's where the WR1 figures in alongside QB/LT/Edge/CB. The rule is generally the positions most key to passing the ball and stopping the pass. Monson puts LB and RB as the lowest priority positions.

This deal, similar to Khalil Mack, seems high but within a season or two will be a comparatively price to pay for an elite pass rusher. Myles is still an incredibly wealthy man, but it does appear Garrett took a home town discount.
There is no downside to having a Myles Garrett on your team for the long term. He's one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, he's getting better every year and he's a well liked and respected figure with an admirable approach to handling racism from Steelers.
Well done to Berry - which is just becoming the default response. He is having a superb offseason.
Yeah, when the other dudes like Watt step up to the counter, they'll top Myles' deal even though Myles is better. Ways of the world. And then MG's deal will look like a bargain.
He's an edge, one of the clear core positions where you'd like to see your cap clustered. Tough to force it, but you'd like to have QB/WR1/edge/CB1/LT as your "stars," among the highest paid at their positions, yada-yada.
If you have the highest paid LB, guard, center, or RB, you're taking those dollars from one of the above positions and you should get out the magnifying glass, make a tweak or three (!).
I think maybe Jamir Miller for one season was the closest we've been to a weapon like Myles. He's elite, special, will be among a handful of the best edges in the NFL as long as he's healthy... and that's a very good thing.
Excellent. Really glad to see it get done now. No drama. No BS. Give him his money and now let him become the star he has all the potential to be.
Love the avatar D
Thanks, Brooksie! I tried to do a forum without it but it just doesn't feel right after a decade...Had to bring him over. 😁
Great for lots of reasons.
25 mil is the right price for both sides
It's a number that'll age well

Just flat out fantastic.
Agree, love that it was so stealth.
Yeah. it was under the radar too.🤑
I miss Dorsey’s flare for the dramatic, but you have to appreciate AB‘s calm and steady approach.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS lets go!!!!!!!!
Locking down guys like Myles, Baker, the Sheriff, and even Chubb will make it easier when we move OBJ (!!!). It's gonna happen.

If Hayden Hurst and a 4th got the Ravens a 2nd and a 5th, then I think OBJ ought to be at least a 2nd and a 5th straight up.

It boils down to this simple fact: Have we ever seen a pass rusher as dangerous as Myles Garrett? Certainly not on the Reboot-era Browns.
