Jhavonte was mentioned by Coach Freddie in his post mini-camp pressers as having had an outstanding rookie mini-camp. That, boys and girls, is UDFA nirvana. Yes, the odds will be long that he makes the roster - but at this point you would be a fool to bet against him. I look for the Hurricane alum to ratchet up the pressure to all others in the DB room come late July.
Seems like every year, one or two players that were undrafted end up making the final 53. Once they are there, they start off adding a major contribution on special teams before easing their way into the regular rotation. This is certainly proof that scouting is an inexact science - and Jhavonte has a chance to be "that guy".
I didn't find any game tape on Dean, but I did find this interview. Jhavonte went the JUCO route (Blinn College) on his path to the NFL. One thing that tells me is there are no entitlement issues with this kid, and he knows and is not afraid of the hard work ahead. Jhavonte then shows how his priorities are in order by stating he came back to Miami so it was easier for family to come to his games. (Oh, and BTW, he was talented enough to play for the Hurricanes). He is well spoken.
I don't think there could have been a better landing spot for Jhavonte than the Browns. His running buddy from last year's Hurricane team, Sheldrick Redwine is here. One of the biggest icons in Hurricane history is an Ohio native, and here with the team - QB Bernie Kosar.
One last thing to mention. Our WR crew is talented, established, and deep in 2019. That will accelerate the development of our DBs every day in practice. Another thing to look forward to when training camp opens in July.
