Thoughts :
Cant believe “the last 3 drafted” are making this much noise
Consider our Saturday picks of the last few years. It’s names like Scoobie, Donnie Lewis, Simeon Thomas, Howard Wilson, Rod Johnson, etc etc.
It looks like those 3 have all completely solidified a roster spot, after only 2 weeks of camp.
I’m fact, haven’t they all flashed? Instead of 10+ draftees and let’s hope the money ball math allows 1/2 of them to stick, AB shifted the draft philosophy to 6 quality selections, it would appear.
Did he really just draft 6 meaningful players who will significantly contribute in year 1? Harris is the least likely to see the field of course, but at this point, it’s safe to say the entire draft class is going to take reps on Sunday.
• Wills will start
• Delpit will elbow his way on to the field
• Elliott will be part of the (by design) DL rotation. • Phillips d/t injury will be in at least some
• Bryant is like Delpit. He’s going to force the coaches to get him on the field. • Harris - prob won’t play, that’s just because JC will gut it out. • DPJ was supposed to be at the end of the WR room, but make it due to his returner skills. Now he’s competing for WR3. Super nice.
Thoughts?
The only other thing I can add is a dose of “it’s early, we’ll see”.
Great points, Ocon.
I think it is very clear that this draft will go down in Browns history as one of the more successful ones in team history. The main reason?
Andrew Berry.
I don't care how young he is - if you know what you are we doing, you know what you are doing. All through this draft, he kept his hand on the pulse of the draft. And he TRUSTED that his scouts had done their work correctly. So when opportunities arose to make the Browns a better team, he took advantage.
Example: Andrew risks a highly priced target by trading back three spots. Not only does he still get his man (Delpit) but he picks up Brick Harris for the risk.....
Calm - but cold blooded. That's my GM.
So, just 2-days after the start of the thread, JP has injected himself into the starter discussion.
Yeah, man, it looks like a quality draft from top to bottom. Love having our lowest pick be a 6th rounder, we're way past the need to haul in a dozen 21-year-olds. I look at this team and envision not needing to replace a starter next offseason.
I mean, we probably will by choice but I can see us being happy with all 22. LB is the most likely target but I have zero trouble imagining a clear duo jumping out.

Oh, boy. Site's doing some strange crap.
Yeah, same for me this morning lol
I know you like to repeat yourself Shep...but damn...4x???🤣
That's why I came here....more Shep!!!
I couldn't be happier with how the rookies are performing. From top to bottom, it's either been entirely positive or close to. Even in normal circumstances this would have been a phenomenal start for a rookie class.
The downside is Jed Wills. From what I've seen, he's just playing like a rookie. It isn't a disaster or a serious concern. He isn't playing out of the ordinary for a young player who is coming up against some very talented NFL ends. Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon and Adrian Clayborn aren't slackers out there. Stefanski has said Willis is making progress, but it remains to be seen how he handles the regular season.
Overall, however, it sounds like a great start to the season for this class.
Yes, much like I referenced below in reply to Dan, individual performances will be key. But the double-edge of that is that younger guys might get WRECKED by veterans without the additional time and ability to both train them up and scheme away from their weaknesses. I'll be keying on Jed all year long, for sure, and hope to see good mixed in with the inevitable bad and ugly plays.
You know all these injuries were getting me down and on Browns Camp Live they were saying injuries are happing like this around the league. Teams are trying to lightly tackle each other in this rushed off-season to avoid injuries. Then Josh Cribbs pointed out how this could actually become an advantage for us...can you imagine trying to tackle Nick Chubb without any real tackling practice? Hmmmm 🤔
Great point, Dan. Gonna be fascinating to see which specific players, teams and schemes benefit from the insanity. I understand that conventional wisdom would indicate the Browns would be at a disadvantage with a new coach, system, etc. in this COVID-compressed offseason but I'm starting to really wonder if there will be no real "wisdom" at all this year, conventional or otherwise. Meaning, it could be that we get pure, distilled "any given Sunday" like never before because it'll be so much about the actual day-of-game variables like how the team is feeling, how the coaches prep them, how the players react to no crowd (which will be EXTREMELY strange for these guys), how the team itself polices itself in-game, how individuals perform. So many fascinating variables that we've literally never seen before makes me think that talent will eventually win out. And the Browns have A LOT of talent. If Stefanski does even an average job coaching, every week should be a blast.
I'm not gonna draw any conclusions or make any predictions about Covid effects on NFL teams. They aren't all the same folks so we can really boil it down to years of service together.
Like, Berry and Stefanski are young and new... but they're also smart, innovative, forward-thinking, and compared to a shit ton of meatheads around the league? Fucking grownups. I've been kind of stunned, it's just a whole new way for an NFL organization to talk.
Point: I think they'll manage the situation smarter than a lot of others in spite of being new kids. But so many factors come into play, right? Like, take the most "stable" franchise like the Pats, and you imagine them having the advantage... but they're going from Tom Brady to Cam and that's a massive change.
I'm just gonna watch and see. Nothing will totally blow my mind.
