Maybe we, as fans, value a second free agent veteran QB more than the Browns brass does. Lord knows, I will be good with whatever Dorsey and the coaching staff is best for the team.
I know if Baker goes down for a significant amount of time - the season is trashed. But what about bruised ribs or a rolled ankle that means a 2-3 game absence? If they feel that is Drew Stanton's role - so be it.
That being said, I still would have preferred either Ryan Tannehill (traded to TEN), Teddy B (resigned with NO), FitzMagic (signed with MIA), or Blake Bortles (signed with LAR) to provide one additional level between Baker and Drew.
Maybe their plan is to draft a college QB who would become #3 on the depth chart. He also becomes the procurer of the training camp RV. LOL. But I still hold out hope they would go the veteran route. One name that is still out there who cover competently cover a 3 to 4 game stretch is Trevor Siemian. Smart kid - played well at Northwestern, and was the Broncos starting QB for a season.
If they draft a QB, which I have no problem with, sure he'd be No.3 to start off, but I think he'd need to be able to move to No.2 at some point. After all, it's probably gonna be hard to keep looking for and finding vet QB's to keep signing and Stanton isi a vet but I agree with you Brooksie, if Baker should go down for any length of time, not good for the Browns season. Then again, guess your back up is still gonna be a bit of a step down in general. Only a few teams have had backups that had talent to a real high degree. Buffalo with Reich, Miami with Strock, Brady and Rodgers come to mind, and wasn't Flutie a backup before getting to start? All in all, I agree Brooksie, will be fine with whatever direction Dorsey decides is best.
I really liked this kid's throwing and pocket passing mechanics skill-set. We might rue the day we let him go and end up with our soon-to-be-arch-rival.
If Dorsey and the coaching staff choose to go the FA route to fill the void left at SS by the departure of Jabrill Peppers - I like the guy at the top of this list. I certainly would be happy with Eric Berry as well. Neither choice should exclude us from drafting Jabrill's long term replacement.
Tre Boston played for Steve Wilks in Arizona last year. Sometimes that could be a help, sometimes it can be a hindrance. There are many moving parts to a potential Boston signing.
Have the Browns, with an eye to the future contracts they need to commit to, already exhausted their 2019 free agency budget?
Do they feel there is another free agent available that could be a bigger, more immediate help?
Or - yikes - is the reason that Tre Boston has not been signed here yet simply due to Steve Wilks is very familiar with him and has chosen not to sign him?
SS Morgan Burnett was released by the Steelers. Yes, he is 30. Part of Peepers success was a a dime linebacker, which Morgan has stated he prefers not to play. BUT - he is a strong safety. With all the rats jumping off a sinking ship in Pittsburgh, I get the feeling that Morgan had NO desire to be in the 412 in 2019.
Building on that point, I think this was a less than amicable parting. Anyone else get the feeling he may LOVE to stick it to Tomlin and the boys?
I don't know that we need Berry, but it's nice that we can now talk to high end talent and actually have a chance of landing said talent. However, Tre Boston, if he plays Peppers position, that is the one I'd heavily go after.
Just took a peek at a somewhat early mock draft...it's only through 4 rounds though, hasn't been completed. It has the Browns taking at pick 49-Safety-Amani Hooker-Iowa (I wonder if he's related to Malik Hooker from OSU?), Pick 80-Mitch Hyatt-OT-Clemson (depth for Robinson), and Pick 119-Isaiah Johnson-CB-Houston. Well, gotta say, these picks do fill needs, so, guess they would not be that bad.

Just making it a bit easier to read the current pool of FA's.
We have signed DB Phillip Gaines for defensive back help. Good depth move.

Thoughts anyone?

Well, forget Siemian - signs with the Jets

I'm still wondering why we couldn't protect or hide that young 3rd stringer who is now on the Steelers roster Brogan Robach, QB.
agreed Stabbs, might have saved us some hassle, er, draft pick. lol

that is certainly a possibility, we'll just have to hope that doesn't come to fruition.
Justin Houston signs with the Colts today

All things to consider.

GM John Dorsey has confirmed that the Browns have contacted the agents for Eric Berry and Tre Boston. Positive news.

If we bring in Zach Brown it'll really solidify our needs on draft weekend.
