I guess Tretter predicted it after a long layoff, more injuries and achilles seems to be one of the biggest culprits.
It sucks bad. He was targeted for Woods and a key component in what he wanted to do. Planned to use him all over the place. No way to sugarcoat it. Tretter, KJ, and even Mack have been more best-case. This is not that.
On this one, I think we'll make a move. Tony Jefferson is said to be healthy and obviously Earl Thomas will be a big discussion.
The Delpit situation is awful two-fold. Lost for this season ouch. Recovery time and % of players who this is a career ender double ouch. AB may need to account for Delpit not playing meaningful snaps again instead of counting him as a cornerstone for the D
One never knows, but if he's back on the field next July thanks to youth, I bet he's eased back, might be PUP'd. Look for a bye week, that kind of thing.
QCT has intel that Logan Ryan could take a one-year deal. That would be a home run for the Browns. They can give him a fat deal and see how things sort out. No disrespect to Delpit, but the odds that he'd be better than Ryan in 2020 were very slim.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall. So much of it is about what you believe this season will be, and not just for the Browns. If you think you have a championship offense, you go get Logan Ryan and maybe Clowney, too. You go all in with short deals.
But right now, the offense hardly looks ready to play for a championship and the year with few or no fans, a season that could be unplugged at any moment...
I don't know. I think a lot of teams are looking at 2020 as an * season.
EDIT: I think the offense will be more than fine. But this decision is happening right now.
Speaking of a season that could be unplugged at any moment, that is why I have not signed up for NFL Sunday ticket yet. I don't want to pay for a whole year and get two three games and they call off a season. If they would let me pay by game or a quarter of a season (or something like that) but for now, I may have to seek out other ways to watch the game if you know what I mean.
So I take it he's a box guy? That is a lot of farging tackles, man... but I feel like we want someone who can cover, right?
I know he has an "activist" tag and even fought the last CBA... but man, you can't fake 130 tackles. He and Ryan sitting out there is pretty weird, but it's always safeties, it seems.
Between Reid, Ryan, and Thomas, it sure ain't like a bunch of nobodies out there.
Now that the dust has settled, I'm kind of excited for Redwine. I realize Delpit was going to be used differently, but it's still more opportunity for Sheldrick, who played well enough last year to be given a fair shake here in 2020.
And Redwine has apparently been a stand out player so far in camp. I saw Redwine more as a guy competing with Joseph for next year, but he might get a larger opportunity to show what he's got this year.
Makes me wonder: are Achilles injuries genetic or just bad luck? Amazing to me that young men can simply overwhelm their physical limitations like that.
Studies point to Achilles injuries...or the predisposition for them...to be twofold. One is genetics, and the other is physical type. The tighter the Achilles tendon the quicker the twitch...but also the higher likelihood of a tear.
We'll have to cross our fingers. I thought Richard Sherman's career was over following his Achilles rupture. He was already on the slower side for a cornerback, so for him to sustain that injury at 30 just felt like game over. But he returned to being a Pro-Bowler and an All-Pro at 32, so hopefully Delpit similarly comes back strong.
It does worry me however, as his blinding speed despite being a bigger safety was a big part of his success. He can afford to lose some and still be damn fast, but it'd be awful he's one of the unlucky guys who seem to experience a decline following that injury.
Maybe his youth helps him, and to look at silver linings, it didn't happen in November. So 11 months will be next July. He'll have been working with trainers for several months by then.
I'm excited for Redwine too, he closed really strong and it seems to have carried over. But I'm kinda jonesing for Logan Ryan.
Terrible for him. Terrible for the team. Just stinks on ice.
May I be the first to say it..........
FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!
14 players injured right now.
This is so frustrating. He was off to such a great start and seemed poised to make an immediate impact. He is such a big loss for us.
How does a man that young tear an Achilles? Gotta be something genetic to that sort of thing. Or simply freak bad luck.

Other than killing the rollover cap - I would love Ryan and Clowney on one year deals

I gotta think if they cancel the season, DTV is giving us our money back. Backlash on that would be rough.
Eric Reid had 130 freaking tackles last year????

Such a bummer for Delpit. Ugh.
