Yeah, honestly, I hate FGs and I hate blaming kickers after losses. Losers talk about kickers. Notice how the championship teams only ever talk about their kickers because they MOSTLY don't matter?
The Bears were wrong to blame Parkey in their playoff loss (Nagy sucks, turns out) because if you're relying on 20 points to win, you're doing it wrong.
I blame HCs who make poor choices to put kickers in bad spots. Stef did that once last night and learned his lesson.
The point after was on Parkey, granted. But the Q1 FG after going once already on 4th down? That's all on Stef.
It's 2020/2021. FGs in Q1 are NOT decisive. The numbers back that up. It's a dinosaur that deserves to be extinctified.
And just like Stef did the right thing going for 2 when down 14, he should continue to lead the way going for TDs for the whole first half. The results are so damn obviously better (like last week vs. Titans, where we kicked ONE FG on our first possession that DID NOT MATTER because of the FIVE TDs we scored afterwards!!!).
Brooksie, I get why "leaving four points on the field" seems like a thing but the reality is that we SHOULD be saying "we left 8 points on the field" because that's really what you're deciding when you kick FGs in the red zone. It's simply probability. You take a "guaranteed" 3 points...until it's not. And then you have traded a CHANCE at 8 points for ZERO chance at 8 points -- all for a CHANCE of 3 points.
See the math problem?
I'm praying Stef is the Paul Brown of analytics who blows up the now obviously losing strategy of trying to win with FGs in 2020.
Field goals are for breaking ties in the second half. That's it. That's all.
It's actually a smart move by Stefanski, regardless of how frustrated I am with Parkey.
It's impossible to have a good kicker in an environment in which a kicker gets released if they miss a couple. Parkey looks like he's in his own head and one way out of it is to relax in knowing you're supported.
It's probably too late in the year to change kicker with any confidence, and to be fair, Parkey has been pretty good this year minus a couple of mistakes.
No one is perfect 24/7/365, but damn - those four points Cody left on the field last night were huge.
Frustrating.

When Parkey arrives at work tomorrow...
Dude's become a serious problem. A big part of our last two losses.
That missed xpoint changed the entire complexion of the game late.
For real. You can't really know what would've happened if he just made it, but it would've been different.
Well, i don't know if this is true or if this is coachspeak because there aren't better options out there.
