I have had this idea in my head here for quite awhile, now - so it's damn time I get off my duff and publish it.
I don't much care how we got to this point, but after so many, many Haslam misfires - I will avow that Jimmy and Dee FINALLY got it right.
I guess it starts with the Chief Strategy Officer, Paul DePodesta. I think Paul should be commended for having the fortitude to stick around through all the twists, turns and certainly - ridicule - this organization went through over the last few seasons.
He never wavered in his vision for the franchise, and the belief that he could lead it to where it needed to go. That's not arrogance, that is a quiet confidence. Arrogance is when a key employee under you takes the culmination of a year's work on your part - trashes it - and declares we will do it my way. No bueno.
You can see an extension of DePodesta's mindset in the hiring of the two most crucial pieces to the organization. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has had success at the NFL level that is based on proven facts and systems. He also designs systems that maximize his players' strengths, not leaves their weaknesses exposed.
General Manager Andrew Berry has been the icing on top of the cake. Every single move that has been made has been with a purpose in mind. It also has been done in a professional manner - he always avoids the kneejerk reactions to the internet GMs. He values the scouts below him and makes sure they feel appreciated.
I don't mean to totally demean Kitchens and Dorsey. They were both good men who cared about their players. Berry and Stenfanski have been a clear upgrade in my mind - especially because of the world events of 2020.
Have been a Browns fan since 1965, I certainly have had to endure many "WTF" moments. This front office allows me to breathe free and easy. And they also have given me the biggest gift of all - hope.
