I think... Personally all of the people that are calling for Mayfields head or who are asking to move on have a bit of recency bias. Seeing other QBs trot out there and immediately perform well is impacting their judgement. After all.. Mayfield was literally that guy the season before last. People are forgetting.. Alex Smith - like Mayfield, had a whole tree full of coordinators his first 5 seasons and was constantly questioned if he was starting material. But caught on fire with consistent coaching and became great. Drew Brees- (who is often a Mayfield comparison) was actually WORSE than Mayfield is now in HIS firs 3 seasons! The in season 4 he finally "got it" and started to turn up. Russell Wilson- Another short QB.. people forget that even though he was always showing up when it counted and was always efficient... Russ was considered a product of his defense and that he wasn't a great passer. His offense led him to have low passing stats (although efficient) for YEARS! But now.. the past few seasons.. he's GOT IT and has turned up. Baker broke the rookie TD record. Baker has had 4 offensive coordinators in 2.33 seasons so far. People keep looking at the neighbors grass but not seeing the whole field. Baker needs to work on some things.. definitely.. no excuses there. But we need to seriously keep it in context. Do you agree with this? Or do you think Baker won't break through?
