I agree with the need to call up Zach Plesac as your starter tonight, but I COMPLETELY disagree with the corresponding move to send Bobby Bradley back to AAA.
In the name of what? So he doesn't accumulate a season of ML service so he is closer to arbitration - so you may have to pay him $1 more in annual salary? What a joke.
What can he possibly learn at the AAA level??? He was tearing the cover off the ball there. Yes, I will agree that he struggled mightily here. But over the last week, he was showing signs of relaxing and becoming more of a hitter. He admitted that the pitching is better at the ML level. So he learns WHAT at the AAA level????
Sending him back to Columbus is INCREDIBLY shortsighted - and so predictable for the Dolans.
The only thing that I can justify that move is Bradley will play every day at AAA. If he’s not going to play a lot up here. Then he can’t get comfortable. I’m in no way defending the dolans. They are trash owners and need to sell the team.
Ya know, after taking a few days to let this percolate - I have come to grips with the "why's" of this move. They want Bobby playing more 1B to become more polished at it. There must have been a major dropoff in the field when Carlos needed a day off. Then you attach Bobby struggles at the plate - the move makes more sense.
Tito said they did not want to turn Bobby into a 23 year old DH. They want to give him more options to get his bat in the lineup more regularly at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario. As much as all of us were screaming for the Tribe to promote Bobby, the plain and simple truth may have been he simply wasn't ready yet.
Also. Tito likes to use the DH to give regulars days but keeping them in the lineup. It kind of made sense why they traded Edwin. He was not a good fielder. And Bauers can play 1st too. We really don’t need Bradley‘s bat right now.
